Maryport Lighthouse

During the Spring of 2017, Allerdale Borough Council have been working to restore Maryport Lighthouse which is believed to be one of the oldest cast iron lighthouses in Britain.

Some of our Year 5 and 6 children joined the likes of famous artists LS Lowry and Percy Kelly to draw and paint the lighthouse whilst others wrote poems about it.

On Thursday 18th May, we were invited to the official opening of the lighthouse and to be part of the unveiling ceremony. Our artwork has been made into large images around the lighthouse and our poems have been published in the official tourist guide. Some of us got to read out our poems at the ceremony.
